According to STOP MALARIA NOW! over 80% of malaria deaths occur in Africa where around 66% of the population live in areas of high-risk. In contrast, less than 15% of the global total of malaria deaths occur in Asia and Eastern Europe. However, according to estimations 49% of the people in these two regions are living in areas where the parasite is found. In the Americas 14% of the population are at risk, but the malaria-related deaths of the region make up only a tiny fraction if compared to the number world wide.
